There is a lot of information available online on "How to come to US for higher studies". But all are cumbersome and have some missing links. This article will be a beginning of a series of articles for coming down to US- A Step-by Step guide. The Articles will be numerous and reliable simply because I have been through the same process already and have gained some credible information on how to do things. Above all it is FREE unlike those Consultants who charge you heftily for the same information.

Why do you even want to come down to US?
The obvious reasons could be many like Money, Good Living standards, attraction for US etc.
But you have to find out the REAL REASON. All those are important things to consider, but then I believe 80% of the people who come down to US finally settle down permanently in US. So if you have some concerns about staying away from your family then think over this, really HARD.
Some people say that "No, No, I will come back after I study good, after I gain Experience in US and earn enough". I completely disagree with all these people. Invariably, they get stuck in the whole process of earning and paying their debts so much that they end up staying in US, permanently. So, be sure what you want to do. This is just one side of the coin, though!!
If you are attracted to US, then you have enough reasons to be attracted. I was myself attracted to it, and as a matter of fact I still I am. But look at the bigger picture, what attracts you, really??
Is it a good career? Is it the MONEY? Is it the Freedom? Is it the living Standard? Is it the amazing Research?
Now talk to yourself and decide whether it is Really what you want to do? I am a Dentist from India, and I was convinced that I wanted to learn the best in Dentistry and earn HUGE. As a matter of fact dentists are one of the best professions monetarily in US. Additionally, I believe the whole system in Health Care in India presently Sucks. There is a whole vicious cycle that can be talked about, but more about it later.
Why do you think this question is so important?
This question is important as this is the background on which all your future decisions will depend. As, Edward Bono mentions in his book, that "All the decisions of life are taken with the background of RED hat, that is your Emotional Content". Once you are clear about this, you can concentrate on next steps easily and with confidence. I have seen people dangling between India and US and finally they end up doing NOTHING!!
